Where to find the best breakfast in Tbilisi—10 perfect spots for iced cinnamon buns, incredible bagels, delightful pancakes & more

Whenever I’m in a new town or city, I like to get up and out just as the place is whirring into action, so heading out for breakfast is the ideal activity for getting a thorough overview of the local scene before everyone else wakes up. And good coffee is always essential, so when I spent six weeks in Georgia recently, one of the first things I did was seek out the best cafes in Tbilisi. Luckily, some of these places whip up pretty decent breakfasts too, from the quirky cool Stamba Hotel housed in an epic brutalist structure to the sleek surroundings of Unfound Door just a hop across the Kura River, there’s a top breakfast spot for all tastes and budgets. So whether you’re after Georgian delights, moreish croissants, or a classic avo toast you’ll find it here.

4. Unnamed bakery, Dimitri Uznadze Street (not far from Ninia’s Garden)

The first day I was drawn into this tiny bakery with no name and no sign was down to the amazing smell wafting into the street. I was walking past before work and tried to pay with Turkish Lira by accident. I got a bun filled with some kind of homemade jam, maybe quince, it was perfect and cost one Georgian Lari (about $0.50/£0.30).

7. Cafe Stamba

This place also features on my best coffee roundup so it’s a surefire win if you want a brekkie too. The decor, which is part of the appeal—think huge ornate chandeliers, an open kitchen, and a Wes-Anderson-esque color palette—blends in seamlessly with the rest of the hotel’s aesthetic and if you can afford the pretty hefty price tag, it’s well worth staying in Stamba Hotel, it’s one of my favorites.

The breakfast menu is made up of cold dishes like grapefruit and barley, bircher muesli, and matcha yogurt, while the hot offerings include ricotta pancakes, omelets, and French toast. I had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon one morning and yogurt the next. Service can be hit or miss but it’s worth the gamble.

8. Bagels Tbilisi

The best bagels I found in the city are from Bagels Tbilisi. While the original location is no more, it's possible to order their amazing everything-topped NYC-style bagels for delivery on Wolt and Bolt.
