The best cafes in Tbilisi—16 stunning coffee shops for delightful blends, incredible pastries & creative interiors

Tbilisi has fast become one of my favorite places, so much so, that I’m considering moving to the kooky Caucaus city. Not only does it boast great art, architecture, scenery, and an endless stream of things to see and do it also has an abundance of great coffee shops and brilliant restaurants. After landing in the city, I immediately got to work hunting out the best khinkali in Tbilisi, and the best breakfast spots in Tbilisi, but I also needed a mood-boosting daily hit of the good stuff; caffeine.

Americano and flat white are my usual go-to's so during four weeks of living and working in the city, I made it my mission to find the very best Tbilisi coffee shops, from Vake, Vera, and across the Kura River to Old Town Tbilisi. Just like the best coffee shops in Mexico City these Tbilisi cafes boast freshly roasted beans and brilliant bites, from morning pastries to handmade cakes, and more.

1. Pro Barista

Not far from one of the best Airbnb's in Tbilisi and the gorgeous Unfound Door hotel is one of my favorite coffee places—a super trendy cafe with post-modern terrazzo countertops and acid blue stools called Pro Barista.

But it’s not a case of all style and no substance as this fun cafe not only specializes in coffee but roasts beans too—selling 16 blends—from a changing experimental profile to a Georgian blend with notes of apricot and apple. The drinks menu has everything you’d usually expect plus specialities like nitro coffee and funnel immersion.

Opening hours: 8am to 10pm

Address: 63 Giorgi Chubinashvili Street

2. Shavi Coffee Roasters

With two branches, one in leafy Sololaki, the other in hip Vera this is the Tbilisi cafe I visited most. Shavi exclusively roasts small batches of seasonal beans and their passion for coffee comes through with every cup. The iced cinnamon buns are out-of-this-world good too, but get one while you can, they sell out fast!

Opening hours: 8am to 9pm

Opening hours: 8.30am to 8pm

3. Pulp

This family-owned specialty coffee shop is an absolute gem of a cafe on account of its great coffee served in handmade ceramic mugs, slick interiors, and mouth-watering pastries. On offer for my visit was a stunning apricot Danish, handcrafted with apricot jam, pistachio crème patisserie, caramelized apricot, and pistachio—what a treat!

Pulp often donates to charity and now sells organic wine too, it’s pretty much a one-stop shop for all things delightful.

Address: 22 Simon Janashia Street

Opening hours: 9.30am to 8pm Monday to Thursday. 10am to 9pm on Saturday.  10am to 6.30pm on Sunday

4. Plantlovers

Close to some of the best street art in Tbilisi, Plantlovers is both a coffee shop and an indoor plant shop. As aesthetically pleasing as they come, the interior is, of course, filled with stunning house plants but the coffee is brilliant too.

All of the options on the menu impress and breakfast here is also fabulous. But be warned when sitting outside on a weekday because parents like to drive right up the school gates next to the cafe to drop their children off. As they keep their engines running car fumes will pump straight into your face over and over again so it’s best to avoid school drop-off and pick-up times, otherwise grab a table inside where the air is fresh!

Opening hours: 10am to 10pm

Address: 4a Niaghvari Street

5. Eleven.window

Two minutes walk from Plantlovers is blink and you’ll miss it Eleven.window—a true hidden gem of a cafe in Tbilisi. I popped in for a delightful flat white which came served in one of the most intriguing mugs I’ve ever seen.

The interiors here are cozy and there are a couple of tables usually placed out front for when the weather is good. I didn’t try their food but that’s only because I ran out of time.

Opening hours: 10am to 9pm

Address: 6 Niaghvari Street

6. Cafe Stamba

On the ground floor of the beautiful Stamba Hotel is a restaurant and bar called Cafe Stamba. It’s pretty much the place to be seen in the city, with an impressive breakfast menu, and seriously slick interiors including a huge chandelier.

The coffee here isn’t the best in the city but it’s not bad and the luxe surroundings add to its appeal.
Address: 14 Merab Kostava St
Opening hours: 8am to 12am

7. Entrée

Entrée is a family-run artisan bakery with nine stores across Tbilisi and four cafes in London. The breakfast pastries, cakes, and bread are all divine here and the coffee is great too. My favorite store is in Sololaki, not far from Mother Georgia, and Watermelon Dog, one of the cutest street doggos in all of Tbilisi.

8. Daily Grind

Super close to Liberty Square, this central coffee shop has a few street-side tables that are perfect for watching the world go by. Batch brew, V60, and Aeropress are all on offer at Daily Grind as well as the usual milk-based coffee options. Free refills are standard when you order the batch brew and the shop is dog-friendly too!

9. Coffee Lab

With five branches of Coffee Lab in Tbilisi, this is one of the larger independent coffee chains. I visited the Vake branch on Zakaria Paliashvili Street and was impressed with the expansive, ultra-modern space with its huge polished counter and low lighting.

I took a flat white to go and enjoyed it in the cute nearby round park, but Coffee Lab also serves all the usual coffee-based drinks. The brand takes pride in sourcing, roasting, and brewing specialty beans from all over the globe, and their blends can be found in restaurants across the city.

Opening hours: 9am to 11pm

Address: 24 Zakaria Paliashvili Street

10. BNKR

BNKR roast their own beans so it's no wonder they serve some of the best coffee in Tbilisi. There’s a slight feline theme running throughout the cafe with cat artwork on the walls and kitty visitors most days (one is even called Chemex).

Inside the cafe is pretty small but there’s plenty of outdoor seating. Pomegranate Chemex is the cafe’s signature drink, but I opted for a classic Americano for my visit.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 10pm. Saturday and Sunday 10am to 10pm

Address: 26 Simon Janashia Street

11. Hello Breakfast

This cute spot, also situated in Vera (one of my favorite Tbilisi neighborhoods) serves really good breakfasts and strong, aromatic coffee. Prices are on par with London, while interiors remind me of the coffee shops I visited in Stockholm, Sweden. I visited Hello Breakfast twice during my time in Tbilisi, once to sit in for breakfast and a fabulous-tasting Americano and once for a take-out smoothie and salad bowl.

The menu features a myriad of delicious treats, from matcha pancakes and dragon fruit smoothie bowls to avocado toast and gluten-free bagels.

Opening hours: 8am to 8pm

Address: 40 Mikheil Zandukeli St

12. Kutkhe

Right in the centre of Sololaki, this quaint little space has decent coffee and delicious cocktails. It’s a homely affair with just a handful of seats and fresh flowers on the tables.

Opening hours: 8am to 8pm

Address: 40 Mikheil Zandukeli St

13. Erti Kava

Embroidery-style wall art, parquet flooring, and hanging seats all feature inside Erti Kava. But the coffee equally impresses. Originating in the townlet of Mestia in Northern Georgia, the small female-run coffee chain now has stores in Tbilisi and Batumi. I visited the Mitropan Laghidze branch a couple of times and while I didn’t eat, I did enjoy the fruity coffee blend on offer.

14. Red Man Cafe

Hidden down a leafy street in Vera is this bright, modern space that serves pretty decent coffee. I lived on this street for a week and a half so visited Red Man Cafe a couple of times. I tried a flat white and an Americano, but to be honest, if you’re in this area I’d recommend checking out Shavi instead as the blends are superior. Red Man is a good backup though and there's a lot of seating and cute cups.

Opening hours: 9am to 8pm
Address: 32-34 Erekle Tatishvili Street

15. Unfound Door

Unfound Door is not only one of the best hotels in Tbilisi, Georgia it also has a beautiful restaurant and serves the most delicious breakfast and coffee. Alongside my plate of dinky pancakes one morning, I enjoyed a nutty, fruity, flavorsome Americano. Architecture and design lovers will undoubtedly adore this place too.

Opening hours: 8am to 1am

Address: 111 Davit Aghmashenebeli Avenue

16. They Said Books

This trendy coffee shop sits just above one of the best bookshops in the city and the literary theme runs into the cafe too with its large selection of global luxury style magazines.

The coffee is slightly overpriced compared to some of the city’s more impressive coffee shops, but if you’re in the area it’s still worth a visit.

Opening hours: 10am to 8pm

Address: 10 Giorgi Akhvlediani Street
