Tbilisi has fast become one of my favorite places, so much so, that I’m considering moving to the kooky Caucaus city. Not only does it boast great art, architecture, scenery, and an endless stream of things to see and do it also has an abundance of great coffee shops and brilliant restaurants. After landing in the city, I immediately got to work hunting out the best khinkali in Tbilisi, and the best breakfast spots in Tbilisi, but I also needed a mood-boosting daily hit of the good stuff; caffeine.

Tbilisi's best cafes boast brilliant blends and cool interiors |
Americano and flat white are my usual go-to's so during four weeks of living and working in the city, I made it my mission to find the very best Tbilisi coffee shops, from Vake, Vera, and across the Kura River to Old Town Tbilisi. Just like the best coffee shops in Mexico City these Tbilisi cafes boast freshly roasted beans and brilliant bites, from morning pastries to handmade cakes, and more.

1. Pro Barista
Not far from some of the best Airbnb's in Tbilisi and the gorgeous Unfound Door hotel is one of my favorite coffee shops, Pro Barista—a super trendy cafe with post-modern terrazzo countertops and acid blue stools.

But it’s not a case of all style and no substance as this fun cafe not only specializes in coffee but roasts beans too—selling 16 blends—from a changing experimental profile to a Georgian blend with notes of apricot and apple. The drinks menu has everything you’d usually expect plus specialities like nitro coffee and funnel immersion.
Opening hours: 8am to 10pm
Address: 63 Giorgi Chubinashvili Street
2. Shavi Coffee Roasters
With two branches, one in leafy Sololaki, the other in hip Vera this is the Tbilisi cafe I visited most. Shavi exclusively roasts small batches of seasonal beans and their passion for coffee comes through with every cup. The iced cinnamon buns are out-of-this-world good too, but get one while you can, they sell out fast!

This family-owned specialty coffee shop is an absolute gem of a cafe on account of its great coffee served in handmade ceramic mugs, slick interiors, and mouth-watering pastries. On offer for my visit was a stunning apricot Danish, handcrafted with apricot jam, pistachio crème patisserie, caramelized apricot, and pistachio—what a treat!

All of the options on the menu impress and breakfast here is also fabulous. But be warned when sitting outside on a weekday because parents like to drive right up the school gates next to the cafe to drop their children off. As they keep their engines running car fumes will pump straight into your face over and over again so it’s best to avoid school drop-off and pick-up times, otherwise grab a table inside where the air is fresh!
Opening hours: 10am to 10pm
Address: 4a Niaghvari Street
5. Eleven.window
Two minutes walk from Plantlovers is blink and you’ll miss it Eleven.window—a true hidden gem of a cafe in Tbilisi. I popped in for a delightful flat white which came served in one of the most intriguing mugs I’ve ever seen.

7. Entrée
Entrée is a family-run artisan bakery with nine stores across Tbilisi and four cafes in London. The breakfast pastries, cakes, and bread are all divine here and the coffee is great too. My favorite store is in Sololaki, not far from Mother Georgia, and Watermelon Dog, one of the cutest street doggos in all of Tbilisi.

With five branches of Coffee Lab in Tbilisi, this is one of the larger independent coffee chains. I visited the Vake branch on Zakaria Paliashvili Street and was impressed with the expansive, ultra-modern space with its huge polished counter and low lighting.

BNKR roast their own beans so it's no wonder they serve some of the best coffee in Tbilisi. There’s a slight feline theme running throughout the cafe with cat artwork on the walls and kitty visitors most days (one is even called Chemex).

11. Hello Breakfast
This cute spot, also situated in Vera (one of my favorite Tbilisi neighborhoods) serves really good breakfasts and strong, aromatic coffee. Prices are on par with London, while interiors remind me of the coffee shops I visited in Stockholm, Sweden. I visited Hello Breakfast twice during my time in Tbilisi, once to sit in for breakfast and a fabulous-tasting Americano and once for a take-out smoothie and salad bowl.
