Ana Leovy's Mexico City hot spots for the best lunch, dinner and drinks in town

I fell in love with Ana Leovy's bold abstract paintings and colourful street scenes a few months before I was due to fly into Mexico City. Through her work using acrylic, gouache and watercolour the Mexican artist represents strong confident women living in vibrant worlds that are a fusion between real life and her imagination.

I bought one of Ana's incredible pieces online, so when I found out she had been living in Mexico City I asked for some insider knowledge before my trip. She's as brilliant as her work and let me in on some of the cities most fabulous hangouts.

After a wander around Frida Kahlo's La Casa Azul, Museo Casa de Leon Trotsky and getting lucky with an incredible private tour inside Luis Barragan's Casa Gilardi I followed Ana's lead and headed to some of the best places to eat in Mexico City.

Cute lunch spots

El Parnita, Av. Yucatan 84

This lunch-only spot in Roma Norte serves amazing Mexican food and is always filled with locals and tourists alike, try the soft shell crab tacos and a glass of mezcal.

Delirio, Monterrey 116

A relaxed café-esque joint that serves up tasty sandwiches, pastries and salads plus they have a great deli full of fresh and incredible looking food, perfect to take away for an on-the-go lunch.

Blend Station, C.P, Avenida Tamaulipas 60

Have you ever been to a coffee shop with a tree growing right out of the middle? Neither had I until Ana recommended Blend Station. This quirky cool place serves some of the best coffee in Mexico City, and serves delicious sandwiches and salads too. Visit during the week to be sure to snag a table.

BelmondoTabasco 109

A great option for breakfast or lunch, Belmondo has a large selection of soups, salads and sandwiches at super affordable prices. The casual vibe attracts artists, musicians and even a few celebs have popped by, don’t miss it.

Dreamy dinner settings

Rosetta, Colima 166

Parquet flooring, botanical prints and leafy plants are the theme at this beautifully romantic restaurant set over three floors in Roma. Rosetta serves some of the best Italian food you’ll eat outside of Italy, try any of the homemade pasta dishes with a glass of dry, white wine.

ContramarCalle de Durango 200

This super buzzy restaurant is the place to come if you’re after seafood, order the fish and shrimp tacos and the whole grilled fish, a Contramar specialty that comes with one half covered in red chili rub, the other parsley.

Best bars for cocktails and more

Felix, Av. Álvaro Obregón 64

One of the hippest spots in town, Felix serves up strong cocktails and there's a cute patio to enjoy them in.

Baltra, Iztaccihuatl 36D

Intimate, dark and super cosy, Baltra is the place to go when you want to have close conversations and interesting drinks, try the Bishop Tinto or Highball Rum.

Aurora, Av. Álvaro Obregón 126

Another place with a cool patio and just down the road from Felix, as well as serving pizza Aurora also have a gin bar where you can order classics like G&T or try a drink with a Mexican twist like a mezcal mojito.
